Download inkGuide

Download, open, write. No account, no sign-up; the internet is only needed for the download itself. Your book grows on your own computer.

Put it on your computer

One file, no installer: download, double-click, write. It works without internet too; the macOS build is on its way.

Download for Windows inkGuide.exe · v1.0.0 · 64 MB · single portable file · Windows 10+ Download starts right away ↓
Download for macOS macOS 12+ · ~24 MB · unzip and double-click Apple Silicon (M1–M4) ↓ Intel ↓ First launch: right-click → Open (unsigned app notice)

System requirements

  • Windows 10 or later — no installer, no extra software
  • A modern browser (Chrome or Edge; needed for voice capture)
  • ~150 MB of disk space; an internet connection only for the download
  • Your data lives in the data/ folder next to the exe — move the folder and it moves along
You may see a Windows warning on first launch.
Because inkGuide is a newly published, unsigned application, Windows SmartScreen may show a blue warning. Choose "More info" → "Run anyway" — the app is open source, all of its code can be inspected on GitHub, and it sends no data from your computer. If you prefer, you can also run it from source (inkGuide.bat in the repo).

Your first three steps after installing

Launch it and name your book

Double-click inkGuide.exe; the workspace appears in your browser by itself. In the welcome wizard, give your book a working title — it can change later, it doesn't have to be perfect.

Rough out the outline

Add the parts and chapters in your head to the left panel. Three to five headings are plenty; the outline corrects itself as you write. Dragging things into a new order is always possible.

Leave the first note

Start by collecting, not writing: a quote, an idea, a spoken scribble. Notes gather under their chapters; the book begins to appear before you notice.

If you get stuck

For questions and suggestions, write to us on GitHub. If it earned its keep, don't forget to buy us a coffee — but write your book first.
